Kids Bring Good Things Home
As a child, after church on Sunday mornings it was routine that the adults would visit out front as they said their good byes and well wishes for the next week. The kids played together as we waited to be called to go home. It was spring time and my mom was in a circle of friends talking and listening. My older brother, sister and I had had time to search around and found the biggest, fattest horned toad we had ever seen. We were so excited that of course we had to show it to mom. We ran and tugged at her dress, begging for her attention. Without looking at us, we heard her say “just a minute”. And as mothers do, she could listen to more than one
conversation at a time and so we said, “We have something to show you!” and tugged again at her dress. Her impulse was to put out her hand and once again she did not look at us. So, we had no choice but to place the horned toad in her hand. Chaos erupted and our horned toad was lost in the shuffle of feet and we were never able to show it to anyone.
We laugh at the sharing of our stories now, but I assure you, at that moment in TIME, mom was not pleased with the three of us. I am thankful for my mom! She has taught me so much about being a mom, a woman, a friend and a Partner In Time! I am thankful to be a mom. It is a true blessing from Heaven to care for
God’s children. It is a great undertaking and a huge responsibility. Our children are the making of our world and society, our future.
Sometimes it is very difficult to see the good that our children bring to us. We are busy and have many other responsibilities. Paying attention and being ready to deal with the things our children bring to us takes TIME, thinking and patience. Our children bring us projects from school, they bring us flowers they picked, they bring us problems to solve, they bring us laughter and joy, they bring us deep worry and heartfelt pain.
All children need to be good at things! It helps them control their life and makes them feel successful. Spend TIME with your children and help them get good at something! Be ready, listen to them, let them get good at solving their own problems by asking them what they think or what they are going to do about it. Notice and appreciate the good things they bring home. I am thankful for my two sons and three daughters, my mom, my grandmothers, my sister and
sister-in-law. All the women in my life!
